Chetana Foundation for Children and Aging (
CFCA
is a child and family welfare program working for the betterment of poor, orphan, semi-orphan, handicapped children and hapless aging persons who are struggling to live in some of the districts of Bihar and Jharkhand. We at CFCA are committed for a social cause i.e. irrespective of caste, creed  and religion. We work for the holistic development of children providing them assistance to get enrolled their names in school; and thereby work for a better future with quality education and health care. We assist in forming mother groups to support the family through income generation activities.

The inhabitants of these areas live below poverty line; and the literacy rate is the lowest in India. They are marginal farmers and cultivation of crops depends on the scanty rainfall. As there are alternative irrigational facilities and if the monsoon fails the land remain barren. Child labor is an issue almost in every district of our reach. Parents being illiterate are not aware of the educational needs of their children. Most of the children at these remote hamlets are engaged in grazing cattles and hunting, and as they grow they a nomadic life for the survival.

CFCA
is trying to reach out the poorest of the poor especially of Scheduled Caste, scheduled tribe, backward classes etc. The girl child are not treated equally and they are victims of child marriage. Most of these people live a primitive life believing in witchcraft and supernatural elements. Livelihood mainly depends upon seasonal crops and other low income generating activities like making leaf-plates, broom, selling firewood, collecting toddy from tree etc. They do not have the habit of savings. During urgency and sickness they mortgage land to land lords at very high interest rates which sometime lead them in losing their land and thus aggravate their life's misery.
